I purchased Ben’s Level 2 Improver Half Marathon Plan to prepare for the Run the River Half Marathon in Brisbane - my first half marathon. With the support of the plan and Ben’s YouTube content, I set myself A, B, and C goals of sub-2 hours, 1:55, and 1:50. During my 'Long Run" 2 weeks before the HM, I achieved my B goal with a 1:54:52 and therefore felt somewhat confident, even though I couldn’t always hit the target paces in the programme’s interval sessions (around 70% success).
On race day, I ran a PB of 1:53:26, despite struggling with mid-race cramping (post 15km) due to lack of hydration (I couldn’t drink properly from the paper cups—straight into the lungs, which wasn’t ideal!). The plan had clearly built both my endurance and pacing discipline—I even set a 10 km PB during the race. A week later, I broke 50 minutes for 10 km (49:46), a huge improvement from my pre-plan PB of over an hour.
In short: this programme works. Follow the steps, trust the process, and the magic will happen.
