Welcome to the Half Marathon Advanced Plus plan!
I’ve designed this for anyone who has run a half and looking to step up and set a PB.
Designed for people targeting a 1:15 to 1:25 finish time.
The first week is 34 miles or 55k.
The biggest week is 60 miles or 97km
There are five to eight runs each week.
The plan has both miles and kilometres.
It is 12 weeks in length, with structured training, recovery and taper weeks.
There are suggested paces for all the runs.

This is my second plan from Ben in a year. First I got my 10k PR done, now it was time to get under 1u25 in the Half Marathon. It's insane how good this plan works. I finished in 1u21 and did 6(!) minutes from my previous PR which a ran just 6 months ago. Wearing a Ben Parkes hat, of course helped me as well. ;-) Next up: Marathon sub 3 plan! #gettingitdone
I've just finished week 1 of the program and I'm very pleased. A great guide and easy to follow. My race is off-road and I mix it up with club runs so I can't follow it too the letter but thats fine. Anyone who asks about training programs I also recommend Ben Parkes.
Hi, I am in the third weekend of the program and I am very satisfied, I recover quickly between runs and feel improvement ... We will wait for the official measurement day of the half marathon, believe that if I can stick to the program I will be satisfied and of course a good result. This plan came at the perfect time for me having run 1:26 in November 2020. It's my goal to run sub 1:20 and I'm using this plan for a race in the Spring. What I like most about Ben's plans is that they are very clear and the workouts aren't overly complex. They also allow a high degree of flexibility and are good value for money. I've every confidence I will be a much fitter runner by the end of the plan.
Brought this plan to help reduce my half marathon PB time and i am a month into the plan. It is simple to follow and allows accountability (it is sat on my fridge! Follows sound training principles of easy running to build up mileage combined with hard interval or threshold sessions which are always varied and interesting. I have already seen significant benefits to my flat speed and endurance. A fantastic plan and great value - Thanks Ben!
This was the first BP plan I've bought but it won't be the last. I found the plan easy to follow and it ramped up nicely. At first, I felt like there wasn't quite enough miles, but the quality (ie speed) of the sessions compensated for this. The key part for me was the long runs, which had quite a lot of variety (ie 2 mins on, 2 mins off) or a mixture of paces to keep me interested.
I actually did my club sessions on the Tuesday instead of the intervals, but the training effect looked broadly similar! I kept to all the sessions as it wasn't too onerous in terms of time/miles (maxing at about 60 miles) and I enjoyed its taper too. Personally, I didn't do the optional run the day before the race and as the title says it was a great success! Sunderland half - where I set my previous PB and I took 4 minutes and 30 seconds of an already decent time. Thanks to Ben for the plan; I really enjoyed it and will definitely use it or other plans again... Keep on #gettingitdone
Only a couple of weeks into the program but loving it so far.
Strangely feel like I’m bouncing back from the bigger sessions faster than I normally would.

I've been using a home made training plan for 1/2's for the last 20 years, but as you get older I need to be a bit wiser so ordered the L5 plan.
It's easy to follow and I'm one week in and after a year of lockdown may be a bit ambitious for the fastest goal, but I'm 'getting it done'.
It gives three time goals for the 1/2 but all the same training so you can guage you're current fitness and adjust accordingly.
Hoping for sub 80, but age, family and work are things to contend with these days.
Like I said as you get older you don't want to give up your fitness and although PBs may be a thing of the past, with this plan I can still give the youngsters a run for their money.
Fingers crossed Brighton Half is going to run this year and we all stay safe whatever race you run.
